Photobucket has become arguably the world’s largest facility of online photos, with a database of over six billion hosted images. It has also released its iPhone Application. This application lets the user upload photos to the online account and view them there. This application has been the competitor of Phanfare Photon iPhone photo application. The Photobucket application is one of the simplest iPhone applications in the business. It comprises just three buttons, namely, “Upload to Photobucket”, “Take new photo & upload”, and “Browse online photos”. A drawback of this application is that it does not work off-line. The said three buttons can only be used if the user is online.

The Use Photo button or the Retake button in the Photobucket applications helps the user in automatic uploads from the phone to the website. But once the Photobucket’s Use Photo button is pressed, the application kind of comes to a standstill and does not indicate any “Preparing image” or “Processing image” message. The application takes around 15 – 16 seconds to prepare a picture for upload and additional 30-32 seconds to upload on a Wi-Fi connection.

The user can upload photos that are already saved to the iPhone. Using the button “Upload to Photobucket”, the user can go to the iPhone camera roll folder and then choose a thumbnail to upload. This process also takes a few seconds in which the screen kind of comes to a standstill without any indication messages.

The Photobucket application acts like a proper browser for the user to view photos on the iPhone. It displays folder icons for the albums on the phone and by clicking these folder icons, the user can see thumbnails of the photos. With the Photobucket application, the user can not rotate the phone sideways to view a landscape. The user is also not allowed to delete an online album, or create a new one through the Photobucket application. Another drawback is that this application does not allow the user to share albums from the phone. The Photobucket application is a free application for the iPhone. It is not as good as its competitor, the Phanfare Photon, but certainly offers a fine photo viewing and uploading experience.
