New Microsoft Vista Version Helps Fight AIDS

Microsoft is partnering with (Product) Red to offer a red version of Windows Vista.

Windows Vista Ultimate (Product) Red will be available starting Dec. 15, and an undisclosed portion of the profits will be donated to the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.

Consumers can now pre-order a copy at Amazon.com, where it is currently retailing for $219.95, with free shipping. It will be available in stores in early 2009.

A student version is available for $64.95 - $10 of which will be donated to (Product) Red.

The product includes Red-inspired content, including an Emporio Armani clock gadget and Hallmark wallpapers, Red- and Africa-inspired graphics, and new Red words screen savers.

In January, Microsoft teamed with Dell to offer two Red-branded laptops with Vista: the XPS M1330 with a 13.3-inch screen, and the XPS M1530 with a 15.4-inch screen. Both laptops started at $1,149 and for every one purchased, Dell and Microsoft will jointly donate $50 to (RED).
